Thunder Bay Police have charged a young woman with arson following a Friday blaze at a Westfort townhouse.

The fire broke out at a Georgina Bay residence at around midnight. The unit was completely destroyed and the upstairs and roof areas of the adjoining townhouses were also damaged. Police say the building's caretaker found two teenaged females unconscious and suffering from smoke inhalation, and helped them escape.

The pair then reportedly ran off. Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service began investigating the fire as an arson case and began searching for two females as people of interest.

Det. Insp. Phil Levesque said police believe the suspects were intoxicated. The pair was observed in the area on Saturday, and was taken into custody.

Just one of the two, a 19-year-old woman from Neskantaga First Nation, has been charged with one count of arson.
