Woman killed, victim's husband in custody

A 61-year-old woman is dead and her 63-year-old husband is in custody charged in the city’s second homicide of 2011. The unidentified man, who surrendered to police at their Balmoral Street headquarters just before 11 p.m.

A 61-year-old woman is dead and her 63-year-old husband is in custody charged in the city’s second homicide of 2011.

The unidentified man, who surrendered to police at their Balmoral Street headquarters just before 11 p.m. on Monday night, has been charged with second degree murder and will make his first appearance in court this morning via video conference.

Following the man’s surrender, police were dispatched to an Oliver Road apartment, where the deceased was discovered.

Police are withholding both the name of the victim and suspect until next of kin are notified. A postmortem examination of the victim is pending. Police remain on scene on Tuesday morning.
