MARATHON, ON - A 20-year-old Thunder Bay woman needed assistance after she was trapped under her ATV following a single-vehicle collision north of Marathon.

Ontario Provincial Police said in a press release that the woman was driving an ATV northbound on a trail when the roadway became rough and the driver lost control, rolling the ATV with it coming to rest on top of her.

It is unknown as to the length of time she was trapped under the ATV before a group of riders discovered the incident and called 911.

Marathon OPP responded to the accident at approximately 5:15 p.m on Wednesday.

Constable Peter Bertin said the group was able to remove the ATV off the woman's body before medical services arrived.

The female was transported to a local hospital by EMS with unknown injuries, and later released after receiving treatment by medical staff.

Marathon OPP are encouraging the public to partner up to reduce the rising number of ATV/ORV incidents.
