With summer approaching there are many outdoor activities that will give you an opportunity to enjoy warm weather and our beautiful city. Here's this weekend's To Do List.
1 Time for Pride
The third annual Thunder Pride is set to take over the north downtown on Saturday. The afternoon is the culmination of a weeklong celebration of pride.
The day starts with a parade, which begins shortly after noon with a parade starting in Waverley Park, proceeding down towards the waterfront with floats and walkers. Participants are encouraged to arrive early.
Once people arrive in Prince Arthur’s Landing the Pride in the Park festival begins, which will feature live music and food vendors.
More than 2,000 people attended the event last year.
The night concludes with the Pub Night DJ Dance Party, starting at 10 p.m. at the Black Pirates Pub. Cover is $5.
2 It’s a walk, but bring a friend.
The 20th Annual Pet Charity Leash-a-thon will take place this Saturday with two and five kilometer routes around scenic Boulevard Lake.
It will also include a pet clinic at Current River Park where draws for donated prizes will be held.
The proceeds this year will be donated to some of the local pet charities as well as the Pet Trust Fund.
The basic entry fee for the event is $10 and registration will run right up until the start of the event.
The event begins at 10 a.m.
3 Trash or treasure?
This weekend offers people the opportunity to learn that one person’s trash can be another person’s treasure.
It’s the city’s popular Treasure Exchange Days, where residents are encouraged to leave unwanted but still useful items on their curb for people to pick up with a sign noting the items are free to take.
A drive all over town can lead to unimaginable finds that can serve a wide array of purposes.
People are asked to remove items by 7 p.m. Sunday night.
4 Tangled
In it's first festival outside of Toronto, Tangled is initiating a north-south dialogue on Disability Arts between Tangled and Thunder Bay with three days of programming.
It includes a film and performance at the Finlandia Club on Friday from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. with tickets for $7.
Flux: A Motion workshop for wheelchair users is set for Saturday from noon until 3 p.m. at the 55 Plus Centre.
5 Don't forget about Dad
Celebrate Father’s Day early with a delicious pre-Father's Day breakfast on Sunday at the Port Arthur Legion Branch 5.
It’s an all you can eat buffet with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes, French toast, Finn and regular pancakes and more.
The cost is $12 for adults and $7 for children.
BONUS: Dare to dream this Midsummer
It’s your last chance to catch a Midsummer Night’s Dream. Redwood Park Performing Arts, along with a cast and crew from across this city, is presenting the iconic Shakespeare play
There are three performances set for June 11, 12, and 13. So you might just be able to catch the one of those final two shows.
Performances begin at 7:30 p.m.- 9:30 p.m. and include an intermission.
