THUNDER BAY -- Officials at Environment Canada say Thunder Bay residents saw the warmest September on record.

According to weather records dating back to 1941 at the Thunder Bay airport, the average temperature for the month is normally 11 C.

The previous record was set in September 2009, when the average temperature was 14.7 C.

But this month the average as of yesterday has been 15.3 C, which is more than four degrees warmer than normal.

Meteorologist Geoff Coulson attributes it to a steady flow throughout the month of warm air, coming up from the southwest into our region.
