Youth arrested for multiple St. Pat's threats

Over the course of a few weeks, the high school received seven threats.

THUNDER BAY — An arrest has been made in the threats that plagued St. Patrick High School earlier this month.

After multiple threats were made over the course of only a few days that resulted in the school shutting down, evacuating and going into lockdowns, city police have arrested a suspect connected to some of the incidents.

Previously, police had arrested a 17-year-old youth connected to two of the incidents aimed at the school while they investigated the remaining incidents.

In a release, police outline incidents that occurred on Dec. 11, 13 and 15 that all eventually led to students being evacuated and sent home.

Both the school's resource officers and Cyber Crime Unit members followed a digital trail that resulted in the RCMP becoming involved to facilitate an arrest.

A 14-year-old youth living in New Brunswick was arrested by RCMP on Dec. 23.

They've been charged with three counts each of mischief, public mischief and two counts of uttering threats.

In the release, police stated the harmful effects of the threats, "The Thunder Bay Police Service is mindful of the harmful and disruptive effects these threat incidents have caused for students, staff, and school communities. The Thunder Bay Police Service is committed to working with school boards and educational authorities to ensure schools remain safe learning environments."

Their investigation remains ongoing.
