THUNDER BAY -- An African children's choir is in Canada to have fun but also help other kids at home.

The Asante Children's Choir is two weeks into their five-month Canadian tour, spending the next few days in Thunder Bay. Tour leader Harriet Busuulwa said for many of the children, who will be performing at the Lakeview Presbyterian Church Wednesday, it's their first time being outside of Uganda. From seeing snow for the first time to eating ice cream, pizza and hamburgers, she said the children are having a lot of fun so far.

"Everything is very new and I'm actually learning new things just seeing them," she said.

On Tuesday the choir met with students at St. James Public School before getting a lesson in the history of First Nations drumming. They'll also try snowshoeing.

They're hoping to raise enough money to send up to 600 children to school in Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi Busuulwa said.

"We have faith that it can happen," she said.
