THUNDER BAY — A youth from Hamilton, Ont., has been found not guilty of murder in the death of 23-year-old Dallas Bannon.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers had responded to calls for assistance on Jan. 22, 2023 at a housing complex in the 700 block of John Street. A male with injuries consistent with a shooting was found and taken to the hospital. He was later pronounced dead.

Bannon, of Thunder Bay, was identified as the victim and a 17-year-old male from Hamilton was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

After a nearly two-week trial, a jury returned with a verdict of not guilty on Thursday at the Thunder Bay Courthouse.

In January 2023, investigators said it was not a random incident but it was also not believed to be related to the illicit drug trade in the city.

The youth was discharged and was free to leave the courtroom.
