Don’t be alarmed if you see a zombie horde approaching you in the north core Friday night.
It’s not the undead apocalypse, at least not yet.
The Zombie Apocalypse Survival Training Association is hosting a zombie walk that is set to invade downtown Port Arthur Friday evening.
Anybody interested in being a zombie for the evening will be dressed as zombie, complete with makeup to imitate the rotting flesh of one of the walking dead.
The event is just a fun way to get zombie enthusiasts out, said Kayla Quinn, co-head of ZASTA.
“It’s just because it’s a really fun topic and it’s a good motivator to get somebody up and running,” she said.
ZASTA is a workout group that promotes fitness through activities like weapons training, community building, food preparation and preservation and basic survivability skills.
Basically the skills you would need if the zombie apocalypse were to ever happen.
The horde will start out from Outlet on Cumberland Street at 5 p.m. and roam through the downtown area, eventually making their way to the opening ceremonies for Ribfest at 6 p.m.
“Our zombies are going to eat some ribs,” Quinn said.
They’ll then head back to Outlet for snacks and games and then to the Black Pirates Pub at 10 p.m. for the Zombie Rawk.
Quinn said with so many events happening in the area this weekend, they figured it was a good night for the zombie walk.
“It’s a really great time to come out with friends and family and enjoy the last days of summer we have left,” she said.
