Rookie Cody Alcock’s four-goal outburst helped the Lakehead Thunderwolves draw first blood against the Ryerson Rams.

The first-year forward scored twice in the first, once in the second and once more in the third Wednesday night, pacing the Wolves to a lopsided 7-0 shutout win top open their best-of-three second-round OUA West playoff series.

Mike Hammond added a shorthanded marker for LU, with singles going to Ryan Magill and Carson Dubchak.

Jeff Bosch made 45 saves to record the road shutout.

Lakehead will have two shots to close out the series on home ice, starting Friday night at Fort William Gardens. Olympic gold medalist Haley Irwin will drop the ceremonial first puck before the game.

Game 3, if necessary, goes Saturday night. Puck drop both nights is 7:30 p.m.
