THUNDER BAY -- The Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s basketball team gets the No. 6 ranking as the OUA regular season is set to begin on Nov. 9.
The Wolves, who had a 10-3 preseason record that included losses to Fraser Valley, the University of British Columbia and Saskatchewan, are the second-ranked OUA squad in the weekly CIS rankings. All three opponents are ranked in the Top 5 nationally.
Carleton, the defending national champions, top all Ontario-based teams, collecting 43 of 44 first-place votes.
In CIS hockey, the Thunderwolves maintained their No. 8 slot, despite a weekend split at home against the unranked Western Mustangs.
For the third week in a row there is a new team at the top. Saskatchewan takes over the No. 1 position from UNB, which lost to Acadia over the weekend.
Alberta, Moncton, UNB and UQTR round out the Top 5.
Lakehead’s cross-country team also snuck into the Top 10, claiming the final spot. Guelph is the top team in the category.
