Basketball Wolves in tough to host playoff game

It’s not looking good for a home playoff date as far as the Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball team is concerned.

The Wolves dropped a 70-62 road decision Friday night to the Western Mustangs to fall into fifth place in the OUA West Division, with one game left to play in the regular season.

The top two teams earn a first-round bye, with the next four teams opening the playoffs on Wednesday. The third and fourth seeds will host the first round, but the Wolves must now beat Western on Saturday and hope Brock beats Laurier in their season finale on Saturday.

The Wolves hold the tiebreaker against Laurier, after splitting a series in Thunder Bay earlier this year.

Tasia McKenna added to her all-time school record, pouring in 17 to lead the Wolves. McKenna, who broke Kathy Harrison’s longstanding club record, now has 1,987 points in her five-year career, including non-conference and playoff action.

Lindsay Druery had 14. The Mustangs were led by 16 from Matteke Hutzler, who also had 11 rebounds.
