WILLMAR, Minn. -- The Thunder Bay Border Cats are in the win column for 2018.
A run-scoring error in the seventh put the Border Cats ahead as they rallied for their first victory of the campaign, prevailing 3-2 on the road over the Willmar Stingers.
The home side had jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning with a pair of runs, getting on the board first courtesy of a Richie Garcia sacrifice fly followed by a Cal Elvers RBI double.
The Border Cats evened the score in the sixth, getting on the board after a throwing error by Willmar right fielder Davis Elliot on an Evan Russell single plated Nick Conti. Russell scored later in the inning, coming home from third on a wild pitch by Stingers hurler Trevor Divinski.
Thunder Bay took their first lead of the contest in the next inning when Garcia at third misplayed a ball off the bat of Conti, allowing Ryan Drake to score.
Border Cats closer Justin King pitched a perfect ninth to close out the game and pick up the win.
Thunder Bay and Willmar are scheduled to do battle again on Friday.
