THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Border Cats are getting an early start on next season, announcing the signing of Canadian pitcher Erik Sabrowski.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Edmonton native plays at Cisco College in Texas and spent the summer playing for the Edmonton Prospects of the Western Major Baseball League.

In 11 appearances he hit .216, homering once and  driving in a 15 in 30 games. He came to life in the playoffs, leading the Prospects hitting at a .395 clip in 11 outings. He posted a 4-1 record and 4.46 ERA in eight appearances on the mound, striking out 31 in 40.1 innings of work.

In other Cats news, the Northwoods League team’s general manager Dan Grant says they’ve narrowed their managerial choice down to three and expect to name a new field boss as soon as next week.
