THUNDER BAY -- The first-place Thunder Bay Border Cats started the second half of the Northwoods League season in winning fashion.

Wiping the first-half slate clean – a stretch of 34 games that saw them win just six times, tying a league futility mark for fewest wins in a half – the Cats on Wednesday night knocked off the host La Crosse Loggers 5-2.

Michael Papierksi, with his first, and Andrew Fregia, with his fifth, homered for the Border Cats in support of starter Brandon Langan.

Langan went five strong, giving up just one run on six hits and a pair of walks to capture his first win in six decisions.

Andrew Perez took the loss, charged with three earned runs before departing with two out in the sixth.
