A five-run sixth inning on Wednesday night landed the Thunder Bay Border Cats back in the win column.
Donnie Sellers doubled home a pair of teammates, chasing Waterloo Bucks reliever Joe Martinson, who failed to get any of the four batters he faced out after taking over from starter Brian Drapeau five hitters into the fateful inning.
Nate Nolan, Cater McEachern and Matt Batten also had RBI singles for the Cats (9-6), who won for the fifth time in six outings.
Julian Loret de Mola gave up three hits and two runs – one earned – leaving with one out in the sixth to earn the victory, his first with the Cats.
Cole Stapler gave up a hit and walk in the ninth, bringing the tying run to the plate, but he stuck out Waterloo’s Taylor Boyd to end the threat and record his second save of 2015.
Thunder Bay, a game out of first in the Northwoods League North Division – albeit with three teams between themselves and first-place Duluth (10-5), travel to Eau Claire on Thursday to start a two-game set with the Express.
The Border Cats return home on Saturday to play Mankato, the start of a seven-game home-stand.
