Johnson bringing Calder Cup to Thunder Bay

Abbotsford Canucks GM will make the Cup available to the public for photos and viewing on Friday night at the Neebing Roadhouse.

THUNDER BAY – Ryan Johnson is bringing the Calder Cup to Thunder Bay.

The long-time NHLer and current general manager of the Abbotsford Canucks, helped build this year’s American Hockey League champions, who downed the Charlotte Checkers in six games in the final.

Johnson, also an assistant GM with the Vancouver Canucks, will be joined by his family at on Friday night, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Neebing Roadhouse, where he will pose for pictures with the trophy.

Johnson spent 14 seasons in the NHL, appearing in 701 career games and put up 122 points. He played in 28 playoffs games, adding a goal and four assists.

The 49-year-old, whose late brother Greg also played in the NHL, retired after the 2009-10 season.
