The Thunder Bay Border Cats four-game winning streak came to an end with a thud on Tuesday night.
The visiting Cats were trounced 9-1 by the Waterloo Bucks, who blasted Thunder Bay starter Ty Wiest for seven hits and five runs before chasing him after three innings.
All told, the Bucks put up 16 hits off six different pitchers, making a winner of their own starter, Preston Church.
Luke Stratman had three hits, including his second homer of the season, and drove in a pair for Waterloo. Alex Boxwell and Mikel Hill also had two RBI for the Bucks.
Alan Baldwin scored the Cats lone run, crossing the plate in the third inning to cut the Waterloo lead in half at 2-1 at the time.
But the Bucks responded with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning to go up 5-1, putting the game out of reach for a Thunder Bay attack that could only manage seven hits.
Church, who scattered just four hits in six innings of work, improved to 2-0.
The Border Cats (8-6) and Bucks (10-5) will meet again on Wednesday.
Thunder Bay returns to Tbaytel Park at Port Arthur Stadium on Saturday, when they’ll play host to the Mankato Moon Dogs.
