THUNDER BAY -- Bryan Burgess returned from a week off to guide his rink to a convincing victory over Krista McCarviille in a showdown of undefeated teams in Draw 3 action of the Tbaytel Major League of Curling on Wednesday night at the Port Arthur Curling Club.
Burgess and his rink of Robin Champagne, B.J. Skinner, subbing in at second, and Pat Berezowski were full marks for a 7-1 victory over McCarville building an early 5-0 lead with a two in the second end and a key steal of three in the third end. The win gave Team Burgess sole possession of first place at 3-0.
Colin Koivula, the other undefeated rink entering draw three had their hands full with veteran Al Hackner falling 7-1 in six ends. The Hackner rink was full marks for their first win in two starts generating key steal in the fifth end and two more in the sixth.
Deron Surkan sub in for his skip Gary Weiss to guide Team Weiss to a decisive 7-1 six-end win over Team Henderson's senior squad who played without Mike Pozihun who has taken over the team from Scott Henderson. The win was the Weiss rink's first and left the two teams with 1-2 records.
In the night's other game, Trevor Bonot ran their record to 2-1 win a 5-3 victory over Devin Doran. The loss left Doran as only team without a win in three starts.
Draw 4 of the local competitive league resumes next Wednesday with an early draw 6:30 p.m. at the Port Arthur Curling Club.
