Burgess ousts Hackner, advances to semifinal

Al Hackner's run at another Brier has come to an end.

Al Hackner's run at another Brier has come to an end.

Fellow Thunder Bay skip Bryan Burgess scored five points in the eighth end of their Saturday afternoon tiebreaker, his 9-3 win eliminating the two-time world champion Hackner from contention at the Northern Ontario provincial mens' curling championship.

Burgess will take on Robbie Gordon in Saturday night's semifinal, the winner of which will take on undefeated three-time champion Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie in Sunday's final.

Jacobs needs to win once to clinch the title. His opponent will need two wins to claim a spot at the Brier.
