Pavel Razvadouski sent the game to overtime with 49 seconds left in regulation and scored once in the shootout, and Artsiom Demkov netted the winner, evening Canada’s record at 1-1 at the Games, being staged in Turkey.

Demkov opened the scoring for Belarus, scoring shorthanded on a pass from Razvodouski at 4:56 of the first.

Canada’s Jean-Michel Rizk scored his second of the tournament to even the score midway through the second. Teammate Brandon MacLean gave the Canucks the lead with less than five minutes to play in regulation, but they couldn’t hold off the opposition long enough.

Canada can secure a spot in round two with a win over Korea on Monday.
