Drew Erwin has been gold this season, but the shine on the Border Cats closer lost a little of its lustre on Tuesday night.

Erwin took over in the ninth inning against the Alexandria Beetles, nursing a 3-2 Cats lead. When all was said and done Patrick Biondi drove home the tying run and scored the winner, helping the Beetles escape with a 4-3 win.

The Cats took a 2-0 lead in the fourth. Tanner Nivins homered to lead off the inning, and Garret Houts plated Kenny Battiston with a double.

Alexandria tied the game in the eighth off Thunder Bay’s all-star reliever Zak Miller, who took over for starter Eric Brown who pitched a scoreless six innings of four-hit ball.

Thunder Bay (2-3) regained the lead in the ninth when Jeff Deblieux scored on an infield error.
