Michael Benjamin was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in a pair of runs Sunday, as the Rochester Honkers set the Thunder Bay Border Cats down to their third straight defeat.
Trevor Podratz also drove in a pair for the Honkers, who got eight solid innings of six-hit ball out of starter Elliott Engle in the 5-1 triumph.
Thunder Bay’s Kurtis McCallum was tagged with the loss after surrendering three runs on seven hits in six innings of work.
Ryan Casillas drove home the lone Border Cats run on the day, scoring Brett Kay on a single to centre in the sixth.
With the loss Thunder Bay drops to 1-4, quickly falling four games out of top spot in the Northwoods League’s North Division first-half race.
The Cats exit Rochester and head back home to Port Arthur Stadium, where on Monday they’ll take on the Alexandria Beetles in their 2012 home opener.
