The Border Cats are back in the .500 club after they stung the stingers 6-1 at home Friday night.

Rain forced a shortened, five-inning game at Port Arthur Stadium, which saw attendance again climb above the 1,000 mark.  The Cats were batting in the bottom of the fifth when the rain stopped the game. After a lengthy wait, the game was finally called to give the Border Cats a 16-16 second-half record.

The Cats scored four times in the third inning to pull ahead 5-0 thanks to a two-run homer that came of the end of Ino Patron’s bat.

Infielder Bret Kay went 2-2 and collected two RBIs.

Mike Hubbard also went 2-2 for the night. He also collected an RBI and scored a run.

The Border Cats will hit the field for their final home game of the season Friday at Port Arthur Stadium. The local club will be looking to sweep the stingers to end the three game series.

The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
