Two former Border Cats taken in MLB draft

Riely Hunsaker and Peyton Fosher both played for Thunder Bay in 2023.

THUNDER BAY – A pair of former Thunder Bay Border Cats are one step closer to realizing their Major League Baseball dreams.

Riely Hunsaker, a right-handed pitcher from Peculiar, Mo., was taken in the 16th round, 481st overall, by the Chicago Cubs.

Peyton Fosher, a right-hander from Tomball, Texas, was snagged three rounds later, 558th overall, by the Miami Marlins.

Hunsaker was 1-1 with a 6.16 earned run average for the Border Cats in 2023. Fosher was 2-1 with a 4.24 ERA, also playing for Thunder Bay in 2023.

All told, 78 former Northwoods League players heard their names called in the 20-round MLB draft, led by Brendan Summerhill, who spent two seasons in the NWL, going 42nd overall to Tampa Bay.
