Cats lose, Selsor drafted

The Thunder Bay Border Cats’ mini two-game win streak came to a crashing halt Wednesday night in Mankato.

The Thunder Bay Border Cats’ mini two-game win streak came to a crashing halt Wednesday night in Mankato.

Blair Moore had three hits and scored twice to lead the host Moondogs to a 6-2 decision over Thunder Bay (3-5), who lost for the fifth time away from home this season. Ryan Casillas and Brian Kraft drove in the Border Cats runs, Casillas scoring Brett Kay from third in the top of the third inning, Kraft picking up his sixth RBI of the young season in the sixth, driving in Cory Kay.

The Moondogs scored their first three runs without recording a hit off Thunder Bay starter Blake Fonfara, who left with two out in the fourth still tossing a no-hitter.

Unfortunately control was a problem.

Fonfara walked five, hit two more and threw in a wild pitch to boot and left trailing 3-1 in the fourth.

Chad Richie relieved and gave up a pair of earned runs and Kasey Kemmer surrendered the final Mankato run of the night in the eighth, surrendering a double to Moore who advanced leadoff hitter J.M. Twitchell, who tripled with one out.

Claw marks: Former Cat OF and pitcher Casey Selsor was the second former Cat to hear his name called at the Major League Baseball first year player draft.

Selsor was nabbed in the 23rd round, 714th overall, by the Washington Nationals. He hit .288 last seson with the Border Cats with 10 doubles and a home run, and also pitched nine times, earning an 0-1 record and a 3.62 ERA. He’s coming off his senior season at the University of Texas San Antonio.
