The Thunder Bay Chill’s longest road trip of the season got off on a winning note.

Brandon Swartzendruber and Paul Craig scored to lead the Chill to a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Lions (4-5-2) on Saturday night.

The win moves the Chill (6-1-1) into third place in the Heartland Division, a point behind second place Real Colorado and two points behind first-place Des Moines. The Chill have four and five games in hand respectively.

Swartzendruber opened the scoring in the 34th minute, converting a pass from PDL assist leader Gustavo Oliveira. St. Louis’s Tyler Nichol evened the score in the 62nd minute, but Craig found the back of the net in the 65th, with the assist again going to Oliveira.

Chill captain Nolan Intermoia and Lions midfielder Stuart Wick were both banished with red cards in the 42nd minute.

The two teams meet again Sunday afternoon in St. Louis.
