Their path to the Premier Development League playoffs is still littered with obstacles and a dwindling number of games to gain points. But on Thursday night, the Thunder Bay Chill took another step toward their goal.

In the midst of a season-ending six-game road trip, the Chill took out their fiercest rival, downing the host St. Louis Lions 3-2 to open up a seven-point lead and improving to 6-5-1.

Trailing 2-1 with 14 minutes to play, the Chill scored twice to steal the win against St. Louis (3-3-3), who continue to hold three games in hand on Thunder Bay.

Midfielder Declan Rodrigquez scored the equalizer three minutes later, with Thunder Bay’s own Gavin Hoy netting the winner in injury time.

It’s the first of three straight the two teams will play to finish the Chill’s regular season. Next up is a Tony Glavin Complex rematch on Saturday.

The two sides will shift to Fairbault, Minn. on July 15, a replacement for the Chill’s originally scheduled home finale against the Chicago Inferno, who pulled out of the PDL last month.
