The Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s basketball team has added some local flavor for 2011-12.

Coach Scott Morrison on Tuesday announced Churchill High School product Brandon Myketa has agreed to join the squad.

The 6-foot-3 guard said he’s grateful for a chance to play for the Wolves.

“It has become an exceptional program and not only will I be able to play for my hometown, I believe that with the support of the coaches and players I can be developed into a much better basketball player,” Myketa said in a release issued by the university’s athletic department.

Morrison, who also added Superior CVI’s Alex Robichaud to his roster, said he thinks Myketa has an excellent future at the CIS level.

“He has had strong coaching both at Churchill and for years at our local camps and development programs,” Morrison said. “He is a tough kid who can defend and finish with both hands in transition and it will be only a matter of time before he is contributing on weekends in the OUA.”

In addition to Robichaud, the Wolves 2011 recruitment class includes guard Sylvestor Alexander, swing-man Joseph Nitychoruk and forward Michael Thorne-Finch.

The team lost guard Jamie Searle and forward Andrew Hackner to graduation. Forward Cam Hornby also won’t be back next season.
