The Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball team ended their weekend trip to Winnipeg in style.
Ayse Kalkin had a game-high 27 points as the Thunderwolves closed out the BOB FM Shootout with a 61-52 win over the University of Manitoba Bisons on Sunday morning.
Kalkin had a double-double for the second straight contest, as she snagged 10 rebounds and added to three assists and four steals in 32 minutes on the court.
The fifth-year senior had a hot hand throughout the game, as she shot 11-14 from the floor and was named a tournament all-star.
The Thunderwolves gained control of the game early, leading 38-28 at halftime.
Jessica de Haan finished with 14 points and 5 boards for Lakehead before exiting in the fourth quarter with an apparent upper body injury.
Manitoba was led by Stephanie Gill’s 10 points.
Lakehead finishes the weekend tournament with a 1-2 record after falling to Winnipeg and Brandon in their first two games.
