THUNDER BAY – Hockey fans attending Friday night’s Lakehead Thunderwolves hockey game are encouraged to bring along an extra bear.

The OUA club is holding its long-standing annual teddy bear toss, in which fans litter the ice with stuffed animals after the Thunderwolves score their first goal of the night.

The team has invited displaced families from Bearskin Lake First Nation, forced from their homes because of flooding along the Severn River, to the game and want fans to bring an extra stuffed animal to leave at the door so the families can participate in the event.

“We are very happy to be part of this wonderful community partnership,” said Lakehead University athletic director Tom Warden, in a release.

The teddy bears will then be donated to local children-based charities.

This weekend’s opponent is the Laurier Golden Hawks. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
