The Thunder Bay Border Cats only scored runs in a single inning Wednesday night.
But the five runners who crossed the plate in the sixth proved to be just enough offence as the Northwoods League team started the second half of the season off in winning fashion, scoring a 5-4 road win over the Alexandria Blue Anchors.
Robb Paller led the way in the sixth with a two-run single, with Ty Blankmeyer and Sal Taormina also driving in runs for Thunder Bay in support of starter Gunnar Kay, who picked up his second win in three decisions.
Jordan Lee and Rickey Sanchez each drove in a pair of runs for the Blue Anchors in a losing cause. Reliever Austin Smith took the loss, replacing starter Blake Bass who pitched five innings of one-hit ball.
Tyler Lequire earned the save, despite walking three batters and allowing the run in his one-inning outing.
The Cats will look to continue their second-half success in a rematch with Alexandria. They return home Friday and Saturday against Willmar.
