BISMARCK, N.D. – The Border Cats are winless no more.
J.Q. Folena hit a two-run, seventh-inning homerun on Friday night to cap a four-run rally and hand the visiting Thunder Bay squad a 6-5 win over the expansion Bismarck Larks, the Cats first win in four attempts this season.
Thunder Bay led 2-1 after four, but gave up a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings and trailed 5-2 and appeared on their way to an 0-4 record.
Colin Rosenbaum had two hits and two RBI for the Cats, who left 10 men on base thoughout the course of the night.
Brandon Fokkema, who subbed for starter Connor Centala to start the sixth, picked up the win. Bismarck reliever Nick Sompagna took the loss.
The Thunder Bay staff combined to allow just seven hits, five fewer than their opponent.
The Border Cats will host their home opener on Saturday against Rochester, a game that will be played in Marshall, Minn. because of ongoing repair work at Port Arthur Stadium that will keep the Northwoods League team on the road for 17 days.
