Former Lakehead Thunderwolves forward Shandor Alphonso has been hired full-time by the National Hockey League as an on-ice official.

The 30-year-old Orangeville, Ont. native, who spent five seasons in Thunder Bay, has spent the past two seasons as a part-time official, splitting time between the NHL, where he's officiated 92 games, and the American Hockey League.

Alphonso scored 19 goals and 43 points playing for LU between 2005 and 2010.
