Goalie MacKenzie Blackwood was the first local player taken Saturday in the annual OHL Priority Selection draft.

The 15-year-old goalie spent the past season with the Thunder Bay Minor Midget Kings, and was drafted by the Barrie Colts in the fifth round, 96th overall.

Blackwood had 15 wins and a 3.08 goals against average with the Kings in 2011-12.

Three rounds later it was teammate Nicholas Nigro's turn, following in the footsteps of Eric and Jordan Staal when he was selected in the eighth round by the Peterborough Petes. Nigro had 35 goals and 40 assists for the Kings.

Defenceman Bryce Martyn was next to go from the Kings, taken by the London Knights with the final choice of the ninth round. Martyn had nine goals and 28 assists this past season.

Not to be outdone, in the 14th round Johnathon Masters heard his name called by the Sudbury Wolves. The defenceman has seven goals and 37 assists for the Kings.
