Four-way logjam in curling standings

There is now a four-way logjam atop of the Tbaytel Major League of Curling standings as the last two undefeated teams Colin Koivula and Gary Weiss both fell in draw four action Wednesday night at the Port Arthur Curling Club.

THUNDER BAY -- There is now a four-way logjam atop of the Tbaytel Major League of Curling standings as the last two undefeated teams Colin Koivula and Gary Weiss both fell in draw four action Wednesday night at the Port Arthur Curling Club.

Koiluva was brushed aside 7-2 by the Al Macsemchuk rink as Bryan Burgess and Pat Berezowski played the back end positions, while Mike Pozihun's senior squad handed the Weiss foursome their first loss by a close 5-3 count.

Burgess returning to his familiar position at skip jumped out to the early lead opening the scoring with three in the second end, However, it was steals in fifth and sixth ends that put the game away as the Macsemcuk crew improved to 2-2.

Pozihun's senior squad with Denis Malette calling the shots played a methodical game against Weiss to even their record at 2-2. A steal one in sixth end tied the game and then Pozihun stole two more in seventh to take control what a closely played game.

The Mike McCarville and Ben Mikkelsen rinks took advantage of the losses by Koivula and Weiss to move into a four-way tie for first place with 3-and-1 records. McCarville iced the still winless Larissa Mikkelsen foursome 8-3, while Ben Mikkelsen made the most of the absense of Al Hackner to edge the Hackner squad skipped by Trevor Bonot 6-5. The loss dropped the Hackner rink to 2-2 in the standings.

In the night's other contest, Hailey Beaudry rink posted their first win in four starts knocking off Krista McCarville 7-5. It was the second time the Beaudry rink beat McCarville this season with the other win coming in an exhibition draw back in September. The loss left McCarville with a 1-3 record in major league play,

Draw five in the Tbaytel Major League this coming Wednesday will be a late draw with a 9 p.m. start.
