DULUTH, Minn. – Thunder Bay goaltender Ryan Fanti has announced his intention to play for the two-time defending national NCAA men’s hockey champion University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs.
Fanti, 19, spent the past two seasons with the Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League.
He posted a 19-19-1 record in 2018-19, with a 2.70 goals against average and a .917 save percentage with the Wilderness.
“Extremely honoured and humbled to announce my commitment to the University of Minnesota-Duluth,” Fanti wrote on Twitter.
“Can’t thank all of my teammates, coaches, billets, family and friends enough for all of the support throughout the years! Excited to be a Bulldog.”
UMD has won three NCAA Division 1 titles since 2011, and have had a Thunder Bay player on the roster all three times.
Travis Oleksuk, who spent the past three seasons in Austria after a four-year American Hockey League career, was on the 2011 squad, while Billy Exell captured a pair of titles in 2018 and 2019.
Fanti is a graduate of the Thunder Bay Kings organization.
