SUDBURY – Lily Gruber-Schulz has been slowing finding her confidence at the OUA level.
It finally all came together on Friday night.
The Grand Marais, Minn. rookie exploded for a career best 21 points, propelling the Lakehead Thundwerolves women’s basketball team to a 93-59 win over the host Laurentian Voyageurs. Gruber-Schulz was one of five Lakehead players to hit double digits on the night as the Wolves put up their highest point total of the regular season.
Bridget O’Reilly hit four three-pointers to finish with 16 points, while Nikki Ylagan hit an equal number from beyond the arc off the bench and wound up with 14. Rachel Webber had 13 points and Gillian Lavoie had 10.
Jerika Baldin kept up her generous ways, dishing out 13 assists for the Wolves (5-9), who won all four quarters and snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory.
Emily Tinnes led the way for the Voyageurs with 19 points.
Lakehead, who takes on Nipissing on Saturday, is eighth in the ratings performance index standings. The top 12 teams make the post-season.
