Gryphons seniors stay perfect

The Superior Collegiate Gryphons continued their march to perfection on Tuesday. Alex Robichaud scored 22 points to lead the second-year school to a 53-37 win over St. Ignatius, improving to 9-0 in high school senior boys basketball play.

Eric Trevisan had 20 points for the Falcons (4-5).

Elsewhere Nick Potter and Geordie Savela netted 15 points apiece and the Hammarskjold Vikings (5-4) moved into a second-place tie in the Superior Secondary Schools Athletic Association standings, downing St. Patrick 58-37. The Saints, led by eight points each from Jarrett Kelly and John Kranyak, dropped to 0-9.

In the only other senior contest, Brandon Myketa had 15 points to lead Sir Winston Churchill to a mini-upset of second-place Westgate, beating the south-side school 50-35.

On the junior boys court, Jared White had 19 points in Churchill’s easy 61-28 win over Westgate, Peter Luft had nine as St. Ignatius won a low-scoring affair over Superior 44-36 and Hammarskjold won a forfeit decision over St. Patrick 1-0.

In boys curling Superior (Blue) downed Hammarskjold 12-2 and Churchill easily beat Dennis Franklin Cromarty 9-4.

On the girls side it was Superior over Chuchill (Grey) 1-0.

Finally, in senior girls volleyball, La Verendrye swept Hammarksjold 3-0, St. Ignatius blanked Superior 3-0, St. Patrick handily beat Dennis Franklin Cromarty 3-0 and Churchill edged Westgate 2-1.

In junior girls play, Hammarskjold nipped La Verendrye 2-1, St. Ignatius beat Superior (Blue) 3-0, St. Patrick beat Superior (Black) 3-0 and Westgate just got past Churchill 2-1.
