Gustavo Oliveira returning to Chill

Playmaker Gustavo Oliveira hopes to help the Thunder Bay Chill turn back the clock.

Playmaker Gustavo Oliveira hopes to help the Thunder Bay Chill turn back the clock.

On Wednesday it was confirmed the Brazilian forward, who took last year off to mend an ankle injury, is returning to the fold, joining former strike partner Brandon Swartzendruber to reform one of the most potent up front tandems in the Premier Development League.

Oliveira, who scored the tying goal in the 2008 PDL championship game, the tally that sent the contest into overtime where the Chill ultimately defeated the host Laredo Heat, should be in perfect health in 2010, said Thunder Bay coach Tony Colistro.

"Gus had a tough year in 2008 and didn’t play many minutes, but when he was on the field he was dangerous for every one of them," Colistro said in an email released by the team.

The Chill opens its 10th training camp this weekend at Chapples Park at 10 a.m. Oliveira, who led the PDL in assists in 2007, and other out-of-town teammates will start arriving over the next week or so.
