Curling’s past will meet its present and future on Sunday in the final of the Northern Ontario men’s curling championship.

Curling’s past will meet its present and future on Sunday in the final of the Northern Ontario men’s curling championship.

Nine-time provincial champion Al Hackner scored one in the 10th end Saturday night to knock off up-and-comer and fellow Thunder Bay skip Dylan Johnston 5-4 in the semifinal in Kenora.

Hackner earned a berth in Sunday’s final against reigning Olympic champion Brad Jacobs, who won five straight provincial titles before taking last year off to focus on Sochi.

Jacobs beat Hackner 6-4 in round-robin play and earned the automatic berth in the final by virtue of his team’s undefeated 7-0 record.

Hackner’s team includes lead Gary Champagne, second Kris Leupen and third Frank Morissette. The veteran skip last won a men's provincial title in 2001.
