SUDBURY, Ont. – The Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s basketball team is going into their holiday break on a winning note.
The Thunderwolves closed out the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule with a 62-52 road victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday, upping their record to 4-3.
Lakehead was led by Dwayne Harvey, who finished just one rebound and one assist shy of a triple-double, amassing 15 points to go along with nine boards and nine dimes. Bacarius Dinkins chipped in with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
The Thunderwolves carried a slim 30-29 lead into the halftime break but their defence stifled Laurentian in the third quarter, holding the host Voyageurs to just nine points in the frame.
However Lakehead’s long-range shooting continued to struggle, as the Thunderwolves only hit two of 16 three-point attempts. Their shooting percentage from beyond the arc is the second lowest in the country.
The Thunderwolves will resume their season on Jan. 9-10 as they host the Brock Badgers.
