A three-goal second period was all the Guelph Gryphons needed to bring the Lakehead Thunderwolves crashing back to earth.

Bret Appio, Cale Jefferies and Kyle Neuber did the damage for the host Gryphons, breaking open a 1-1 tie and propelling Guelph to the 5-2 win.

Trevor Gamache, who evened the score at one 12:09 into the first, and Mike Hammond, scored for Lakehead.

Nicklas Huard, who scored the first and last goals of the contest, was the other Guelph goal scorer.

The two teams will tangle again on Saturday.
