THUNDER BAY -- The ice racing season is set to kick off after a delayed start.
Warm temperatures had left the ice on Mission Bay too thin to race on. Wednesday night the Thunder Bay Autosport club met to discuss the upcoming season. The racers usually start their season in mid-January, and the first race for this year was supposed to be taking place on Jan. 17. The club is looking to start the season on Jan. 24.
There is currently about a foot of ice on Mission Bay and they need it to be a bit thicker before the racing can begin.
The club is not seeing any signs that fewer racers are taking part, because of the later start. As well, about six cars will be coming up from the U.S. later in February to compete.
