THUNDER BAY -- The Kamview Jackrabbit Sprints took place on Feb. 25th at Kamview Nordic Centre. According to the announcer, this was the 157th Kamview Jackrabbit Sprints. We suspect he might have been off by a couple of decades, but the Kamview Jackrabbits have indeed been hosting a Sprints event for many years now. And this year it was bigger and better than ever!

About 145 children (3 to 14 years old) participating, it was a spectacular day. The cross country ski trails were groomed to perfection. The sun was shining but the wind was brisk. Fortunately there was a campfire to warm you on the outside and burgers hot off the BBQ to warm you on the inside.

This event introduces children to healthy competition in a fun and festive environment. It also allows children the opportunity to demonstrate their skiing skills to parents and spectators. All participants went home with a fun Canada 150 toque, and received a stunning participation medal and delicious chocolate bar as they crossed the finish line.

Technique awards were presented to the following participants:

Bunnies: Violet King and Garrick Hall
Level 1: Emmi Puiras and Noah Winn
Level 2: Abigail Skomoroh and William Genyk
Level 3: Kaia Havanan and Jacob Wood

Evaluation: Mae Cerisano and Noah Wiebe
Level 4: Makara DelPino and Samuel Vanlenthe
Track Attack: Charlotte Sarrazin and Edgar Sarrazin

There were as many Lappe Nordic Ski Club Jackrabbits participating as those from the Kamview Jackrabbit program. In a couple of weeks when Lappe hosts the Lappe Invitational, many of the Kamview Jackrabbits will be heading to Lappe. What an amazing family-friendly ski community we have here in Thunder Bay.
