TORONTO -- The Thunder Bay minor midget Kings dropped a 3-1 decision to the Eastern Ontario Wild Wednesday morning in their opening game at 2017 OHL Cup Showcase Tournament in snowy Toronto.

After a scoreless first period, Eastern Ontario struck just 15 seconds into the middle session to take the lead.

Down a man a couple minutes later, the Kings connected while shorthanded as Keighan Gerrie scored with assists going to Kyler Belluz and Zach Fortin.

The Wild countered however by getting the eventual game-winner midway through the stanza to go up 2-1 after two.

They then secured the win with a late marker in the final minute of regulation to round things out offensively.

Eastern Ontario outshot Thunder Bay 33-21 in the contest with Luke Cavallin picking up the win and Christian Cicigoi the loss.

The Kings will return to the ice Wednesday evening as they take on the Mississauga Reps at 8:45 p.m., who defeated the Halton Hurricanes 5-2 Tuesday in a Wild Card play-in game on Tuesday afternoon to advance to the tourney.
