Lakehead men trump Toronto

The Lakehead Thunderwolves men's basketball team has their first regular season win in the Thunderdome this year. Lakehead downed the visiting Toronto Varsity Blues 75-55 at the Thunderdome on Friday evening.

The Thunderwolves led from the outset, holding a 15-9 lead after the first quarter.

Interim head coach Matt Erdman used his big men in the second quarter, as he played seven-footers Brent Wallace and Andrew McCarthy simultaneously for portions of the frame.

McCarthy finished the contest with 16 points on 7-of-7 shooting in 21 minutes.

Toronto kept the contest close, before Lakehead closed out the game's final six minutes with authority to put the outcome out of reach.

Alex Hill had a game-high 21 points for Toronto, and McCarthy and Anthony McIntosh led Lakehead with 16 points each. Dwayne Harvey chipped in 15, and Igor Lebov finished with eight points and eight boards.

Lakehead will take on the Ryerson Rams at 8 p.m. at the Fieldhouse on Saturday.
