Lakehead runners burn up track

In their final meet before the OUA Championships later this month, the Lakehead Thunderwolves track and field team ran to four first-place finishes and seven podiums results overall at Saturday’s Lake Superior Challenge at St. Scholastica in Duluth.

On the women’s side, sophomore sprinter Vanessa Ivec was first in the 300m sprint in a time of 43.33. Tess Naroski led a strong contingent of Wolves in the 3000m, winning in a time of 10:29.78 with Hilary Quirion third in 10:43.02, under two seconds ahead of teammate Lisa Alaimo.

Sophomore Alastair Brown won the 1,000-metre in 2:30.88, while freshman Chris Brown owned the one-mile race in a time of 4:27.00. Fellow freshmen Travis Roske and Andrew Nixon rounded out the LU men’s podium results with silvers in the 600-metre and 3,000-metre races, respectively.
