THUNDER BAY – No overtime heroics were needed on Saturday night.

The Lakehead Thunderwolves broke out of their slump in a big way this weekend, which they capped with a 5-2 win over the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs at Fort William Gardens, a victory propelled by a pair of Carson Dubchak goals.

The Wolves (10-10-2) scored twice in the second to stake themselves to a 2-0 lead, then after Richard Therrien beat Devin Green 5:43 into the second, Lakehead rolled off three in a row to go up 5-1 and put the OUA men’s hockey contest out of reach.

Grant Valiquette, Zach Whitlock and Patrick Murphy also scored for the Thunderwoves, winners of two straight.

Jayme Forslund had the other Voyageurs tally midway through the final stanza.

Laurentian outshot Lakehead 40-37 in front of a paid crowd of 1,809.
