Lakehead scored first, but it was Queen’s who got the last laugh.
The host Golden Gaels raced out to a 15-point halftime lead Friday night in Kingston, then cruised to an 84-64 win over the retooled Thunderwolves.
Rookie Igor Lebov topped LU with 15 points and seven boards, while veteran Anthony McIntosh dropped a dozen points and five rebounds in a losing cause.
Dwayne Harvey added 10 points, six rebounds and five steals.
The Gaels relied on a spread-out offence that saw four players hit double digits, led by 16 apiece from Roshane Roberts and Nikola Misljencevic.
“We didn’t bring the energy and focus needed in an OUA conference game,” said interim coach Matt Erdman, making his OUA debut behind the Thunderwolves bench. “There was a moment in the third quarter where we played the way we’re capable of. Turnovers throughout the entire game was again an issue and not continuing to go inside after early success.”
Lakehead will seek its first win Saturday on the road against York.
